Magnificent neo-classical console table. Walnut on oak in butterfly images. Frieze drawer with egg & dart molding. Marble top. Mirrored back with stiff leaf molding and 2 pilasters with acanthus leaf capitals. Highly sculptured and superbly detailed giltwood and verde antico painted caryatids over hairy pawfeet make this console table a MASTERPIECE OF APPLIED ARTS. All giltwood parts retaining their original gilding. Circa 1800. Danube Monarchy, most likely Vienna. 31" h, 39" w, 19" d Reference: a comparable piece is illustrated on page 256, figure 479, W.
